Newham General Hospital, London
Cousins Group were awarded the contract to decorate 2 new buildings at the hospital and a new building at the Newham Treatment Centre.
Surface finishes in hygiene environments are critical to their effectiveness, whether in helping to control contamination or infection. Operating theatres, kitchens, research laboratories, food and drug production areas, residential care facilities are all places where enhanced levels of hygiene are essential to operational success. A key component in achieving this cleanliness is the design, quality and type of surface finishes on the walls, floor and ceiling. Hygiene coatings of good quality and applied to the highest standards are a highly cost-effective way of achieving the performance required, and Cousins staff and operatives are highly experienced in applying hygiene coatings of all types. The performance standards for operational hygiene environments are defined by the HSE in categories named Containment Levels; 1 being the easiest to achieve, and 4 requiring the highest performing materials and systems. Each of the Containment Levels are derived from the grouping of Biological Agents Hazards, as published in The Advisory Committee on Dangerous Pathogens Guidance Note on the Management Design and Operation of Micro-biological Containment Laboratories. Cousins Group have applied a wide range of liquid hygiene coating systems to meet all these Containment Levels and are able to advise on material selection, substrate requirements, design of details such as corners and intersection between wall and floor finishes etc. Our site staff and operatives are trained to understand the importance of surface finishes to the overall efficiency of the installation and are committed to providing the highest quality of application and finish. We are experienced at creating defect free, fully continuous and airtight films, including coving and fairing, and partial or fully reinforced coatings which lap onto penetrations, ducting, floor finishes etc. The performance requirements for Hygiene Coating Systems may include: The materials that may meet these requirements for hygiene coatings to walls, floors and ceilings range from single component water-based finishes through to multi-component fully reinforced systems. Examples of materials applied by Cousins to meet the operational requirements of each of the HSE Containment Levels (CL1 – CL4) include: A few examples of Hygiene Systems for which Cousins are approved applicators: Cousins Group were awarded the contract to decorate 2 new buildings at the hospital and a new building at the Newham Treatment Centre. Cousins Group was awarded the contract to apply high performance hygiene coatings to Operating Theatres. This project was a major new build biological research facility testing serious pathogenic diseases. This project was a major new build biological research facility. Cousins Group undertook all the hygiene coatings and general re-decoration for this new hospital. We maintained a continuous presence at the hospital from 2002 to 2014. All work was undertaken during occupation of the hospital, and as a result Cousins developed very robust procedures for working around vulnerable and unwell occupants with minimum disruption. Covering an area of 12500sqm and including 770 rooms & 900 doors, Cousins carried out all the painting and decorating for this project.HYGIENE SERVICES
